Hi everyone
I came across a box on ebay which is called :MAXX1000 Digital Satellite Receiver with Built-in Smart Card Reader now i was wondering that with this box will I need a Sat Dish or can i connect this box straight to the internet and receive all channels? And what channels will I be able to receive if i just connect it to the Internet? Other sites are selling these boxes as FTA. Now if I bought one from them where can I find the patch for it? please let me know Regards Anit |

All satellite receivers require a dish and LNB, pointed at the correct satellite, to receive the desired channels.
You can get a motorized dish and select other satellites or fit multiple LNB's to receive a few satellites. I am not personally aware of your receiver so I don't know if it is patchable and if there are any patches for it, I'm sure someone who knows about these receivers will answer your questions. |

Robbo is correct about the box being a cardsharing box, I did a bit of research for another poster and came up with what Robbo says.
I am sure that Robbo has given you the right forum for that box, as far as I can remember. Very best regards Wez

The Maxx receiver was around for a few weeks in early Spring, the box connects to server but as I recall some boxes now need moding to get it to connect to the server as it has now been replaced with the Protek 9600IP slightly more expensive but by only a tenner or so and is a lot easier to connect and update.
Regards

Hi guys
Thanks for the replies i really appreciate all the help given. Am kinda still confused in a way coz i was just at a site which i came accross and this is what it said on there: (Hook this receiver to your broadband via Ethernet cable or Wireless Access Point and watch more Movies, Football and Adult TV than you'd ever dreamed possible, all completely free! Very easy to install, no Cams needed - just plug and go!) So am kinda wondering will I still need a Dish, and this new receivers which are slightly more expensive, Does anyone have a link for it please. Can i use these boxes without a Motorised Dish? regards Anit |

You still need a dish, as all the server does is fool the receiver in to thinking it has a card for the channels inserted. Also you have to have the receiver connected all the time to the router for it to clear those channels. Motorising would give you more choice, but there is plenty open on Hotbird depending on your tastes! As for a link see item number 180239492216 on ebay (my listing)

Does the installation include a Mortorised Dish as well?
And after being connected will I still need to subscribe for viewing the channels? I heard that you need to patch the boxes in order for them to work apparently is that true? And can you do Multi room as well? do let me know as am very interested in it. Regards Anit |

Taken from another forum:
************** Instructions for upgrading your 9600IP receiver ************** Firstly you will need the following tools:- PC running Windows, which has an available serial (COM) port. If it does not have a COM port, you will need a USB to serial adapter Null modem cable (also known as a crossover cable), with 9 pin D-connectors on end (female) Download the following from the Download Area Uploader v13 Bootloadersoftware 1.33 or 1.34 - Note I can't find this so maybe it needs to be uploaded Software 1.32 or higher To open the files, you may need to have Winzip on the PC to extract the achived files. Make sure you extract all the files to a known folder, before starting. Load bootloader on to receiver Run UploaderV13.exe Select the available COM port by clicking on COM1 (if this is not the COM port to be used). Select option, by clicking on Main (this toggles between Main and Boot) Click on Open File, and select the bootloader file (it will be a bin file) Click on Start Down Click on OK on screen Press OK on receiver Press standby – the receiver will boot and the file will start transferring to the receiver WAIT! - click OK on loader screen when told that transfer is complete Press Exit on screen Software is updated Load s/w 1.32 or higher on to receiver Run UploaderV13.exe again, and select the COM port to use This time, make sure that Main is selected, and not boot Click on Open File, and select software (bin) file Click on Start Down Click on OK on screen Press OK on receiver Press standby – the receiver will boot and the file will start transferring to the receiver WAIT! - click OK on loader screen when told that transfer is complete Press Exit on screen Software is updated Internet Upgrade to latest available s/w version Once s/w v1.32 or higher is loaded on the receiver, you can update via the remote control using the Internet Update function. To enable this, click on Menu > Internet > S/W Upgrade > Start Download If there is no address in the box, enter the following address deleted as not allowed ..... be careful to spell the address correctly Then press blue button on the remote control to Start Download The file will be downloaded to the receiver, and the receiver will reboot (do not power the receiver off yourself while the the flashROM is being written to) To load channel list Run Uploader Click on “Open File” Choose channel list file Press Open Click on “Start Down” Click on OK on screen Press OK on receiver Press standby – the receiver will boot and the file will start transferring to the receiver Press Exit on screen Channel list is updated Once you have upgraded the s/w. Connect the antenna connection, and go into Menu, Installations to set up the antenna. Set up Diseqc motor Press Menu on the remote Installation Antenna Setting Satellite - Choose satellite (press OK) Changed Disqec1.2 to ON Select Diseqc1.2 settings Used left and right to move dish East / West for max signal / quality Select Store Position - press OK Press Exit Job done Follow same process for other satellites
