Default To delete or not to...

Have been following instructions for Downloading for Dummies beginers but all did not go well! Is it best to start again by deleting what files I've downloaded from alsat. Or use them again. New to this game. Is it best to try winrar instead of winzip? Winzip instructions did not follow what it said it would in Dummies instructions. Is Winrar easy to use? Please reply as if I am a five year old!-seriously. Many thanks!

If the file ends in .zip you use winzip, if it ends in .rar you use Winrar.
Both should automatically select the correct software to open with, providing you have them on your computer.
If the download hasn't worked correctly delete the file and download it again.

It doesn't matter which file you use. Winrar will do them both anyway. Just save the file to a directory of your choice, right click and select "Extract to here" job done, you have the file s decompressed ready to send to the receiver.
