The new Freesat is using the same satellites and transponders more or less as the FTA channels on 28E. The only thing that is new really is the Sky-like EPG and the dedicated boxes. All the channels apart from the ITV HD can be received on any old FTA digital sat box, with a dish on 28E. Also since launch a couple of channels like E4, more 4 etc have become FTA, rather than being FTV.

Have a wee bit more information regarding the Humax box and it is quite interesting.

The Humax Foxsat Freesat HD receiver at least includes the following specs

# Can I use my current satellite dish?
Yes, if you have a working satellite dish that you current use for UK satellite broadcasts (e.g. S*y) then you can replace your existing equipment for a Foxsat-HD

# Can I add channels that are not available through freesat?
Yes, the Foxsat-HD has a freesat mode and a non-freesat mode. Please visit the Advanced Section for more information.

# Can I connect it to a Multi satellite system?
The Foxsat-HD product can be used with a DiSEqC 1.0 / 2.0 switch or a DiSEqC 1.2 motorised System.

# I have a motorised Satellite Dish, can I use it?
Yes, you can use a Motorised dish (DiSEqC 1.2 or USALS)

So it has a bit of other uses other than for FreeSat, it would appear. Wonder if anyone will come out with some software that would allow the reception of encrypted channels?

Very best regards Wez

Wow, that Humax box is sounding far better than I would ever have imagined. Freesat obviously have a very different approach to hardware compared to Sky. Good for them!

No new satellietes - its using exactly the same set of birds as before - with the channels on the same transponders as before.

Just to confirm, then, does that mean that I can receive all SD channels including all the BBC and ITV regions, E4, More4, Channel4 (except Channel 5) on my Tecchie and all from 28.3E? In which case, as I have Freeview terrestial digital built into my TV, I'll not bother buying a Freesat box in the meantime. I gather the biggest attraction is the availability of reception of HD television. Am I right?

Yep that's about it. As you say for those with HD equipment they can get HD channels FTA with the correct HD receiver of course. (The Sly HD Dodgy box doesn't appear to be able handle ITV HD).
I know that Llew over on 'satellites' has so far got a picture but no sound on this channel using a Fortecstar Passion.

Free box lol. The bit about the boxes being able to drive a motor and all that stuff, came from a post in another forum, one well know for no Sly or freesat chat.

They seem a fair box for the money though Nano, I really will buy one for the Football, just need to get the money, not easy when you are retired and only state money coming in. but I shall have one before next month.

Very best regards We
