Default UK L-band auction begins

Ofcom’s UK auction of L-Band spectrum began May 6.

There are eight bidders for the UK’s L-Band spectrum (1452MHz-1492MHz), and Ofcom opened the bidding May 6, although each of the bidders has already paid a £50,000 entry fee to sit at the bidder’s table.

Ofcom has split the spectrum into 16 small parcels, 15 of 1.7MHz and one of 12.5MHz (probably best directed at a player like WorldSpace). Telco O2 has already removed itself from the process leaving eight players seeking some or all of the spectrum:

Adolphus Ltd
Arqiva
E-Portal Holdings KSC
MLL Telecom
Qualcomm UK Spectrum Ltd
The Joint Radio Company Ltd
Vectone Network Ltd
WorldSpace UK Ltd
