Default Echostar vs NDS :Peled returns to Court

Dr Abe Peled, CEO at NDS,appeared in court May 6, and admitted that NDS kept a hacker on its payroll. “We trusted him,” said Peled.

After a weekend of mostly negative comment, including the airing by ABC News of a segment that shows a journalist trying to get Rupert Murdoch to answer questions on the Echostar vs NDS $100m “Spygate” business espionage trial, Dr Abe Peled appeared in court. See the ABC News video here: http://www.abcnews.go.com/Blotter/st...4789512&page=1

Peled showed up following a warning made by the judge in the trial that he might have to issue negative comments to the jury in the case if Peled did not front court.

Christopher Tarnovsky is the alleged hacker and a central figure in the legal action. He has already claimed in court that he is being made a scapegoat in the case, and had been “set up”. The court has heard Tarnovsky’s evidence that he received hidden packages of cash sent from Canada, and that in 2000 he received a total of $128,000 from News Corp subsidiary Harper Collins, and at the end of that year received a $5000 bonus. The court had earlier heard that someone had placed the hacked Echostar smart-card code onto the internet in the same month that Tarnovsky received the bonus payment. Peled told the court on May 6 that Tarnovsky received a $5,000 bonus "because he must have made a very good technical contribution."

Dr Peled told the court: “We made it clear that these people were turning over to the good side and are expected to fight piracy instead of engage in it and we trusted Mr. Tarnovsky and instructed him not to do so.” Tarnovsky stayed on the News Corp payroll until last year.
