where to place dish

i have just purchased a tech 5400ci motorised system and was wondering where i can find out where i put the dish and in what direction i have tried dishpointer.com but cannot understand how that works thick or wot is there any other way of finding out the best position for the dish

First things first, I suggest you have a good read of STICK's guide a few times. Everything is explained there.

Basically, ideally you need to find a south facing wall that has a good clear view of the Sky due south and fair way each side.

Put a pole on the wall 100% vertical.

Assemble everything on according to the motor instructions, then send the dish to 0.8W or 1W using USALS.

Then select the 11325H transponder on Thor and adjust the dish elevation and swivel the whole assembly round the pole for maximum quality signal.

Do a scan, check that you get BBC World on 11325H, if so you are done.

If your location is not close to 0 then it would be better to pick a different iniial satellite, but it is not essential. The guide explains.
