Satkings was hacked as mept1 says but is back on now and will remain with the cable chat in tact. There are very few forums now like this one and Satkings who will keep the cable stuff and are not over reacting. Lincsat is spot on in an earlier post about what happened to modshack owners and the situation now with freedom of speech.

I think you'll find that this has absolutly nothing to do with 'Freedom of Speech' ... it is all about copyright issues .... this is the part of the Broadcasting Act 1996 that implies to these forums/traders....

Quote:

s.297A (unauthorised decoders)
[
Added by the Broadcasting Act 1990 and amended as indicated by the
Broadcasting Act 1996 (then replaced by revised version, SI 2000/1175]

297A.
C(1) A person who makes, imports, sells or lets for hire, offers or exposes for sale or
hire, or advertises for sale or hire, any unauthorised decoder shall be guilty of an offence and
liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale C

(a) on summary conviction, to a fine not exceeding the statutory maximum;
(b) on conviction on indictment, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, or
to a fine or to both.
(2) It is a defence to any prosecution for an offence under this section for the defendant to
prove that he did not know, and had no reasonable ground for knowing, that the decoder
was an unauthorised decoder.
331
(3) In this section
C

“apparatus” includes any device, component or electronic data;
“decoder” means any apparatus which is designed or adapted to enable (whether on its
own or with any other apparatus) an encrypted transmission to be decoded;
“transmission” means any programme included in a broadcasting or cable programme
service which is provided from a place in the United Kingdom; and
“unauthorised”, in relation to a decoder, means a decoder which will enable encrypted
transmissions to be viewed in decoded form without payment of the fee (however
imposed) which the person making the transmission, or on whose behalf it is made,
charges for viewing those transmissions, or viewing any service of which they form part.
s.298 (rights &c. in respect of apparatus &c. for unauthorised reception of
transmissions)
[
Amended as indicated by the Broadcasting Act 1996 (then replaced by revised
version, SI 2000/1175]

298.
C(1) A person whoC

(a) makes charges for the reception of programmes included in a broadcasting or cable
programme service provided from a place in the United Kingdom, or
(b) sends encrypted transmissions of any other description from a place in the United
Kingdom,
is entitled to the following rights and remedies.
(2) He has the same rights and remedies against a person who
C

(a) makes, imports or sells or lets for hire
, offers or exposes for sale or hire, or advertises
for sale or hire, any apparatus or device designed or adapted to enable or assist persons
to receive the programmes or other transmissions when they are not entitled to do so, or
(b) publishes any information which is calculated to enable or assist persons to receive
the programmes or other transmissions when they are not entitled to do so,
as a copyright owner has in respect of an infringement of copyright.
(3) Further, he has the same rights under section 99 or 100 (delivery up or seizure of
certain articles) in relation to any such apparatus or device as a copyright owner has in
relation to an infringing copy.
(4) Section 72 of the Supreme Court Act 1981, section 15 of the Law Reform
(Miscellaneous Provisions) (Scotland) Act 1985 and section 94A of the Judicature (Northern
Ireland) Act 1978 (withdrawal of privilege against self-incrimination in certain proceedings
relating to intellectual property) apply to proceedings under this section as to proceedings
under Part I of this Act (copyright).
(5) In section 97(1) (innocent infringement of copyright) as it applies to proceedings for
infringement of the rights conferred by this section, the reference to the defendant not
knowing or having reason to believe that copyright subsisted in the work shall be construed
as a reference, to his not knowing or having reason to believe that his acts infringed the
rights conferred by this section.
(6) Section 114 of this Act applies, with the necessary modifications, in relation to the
disposal of anything delivered up or seized by virtue of subsection (3) above.

s.299 (supplementary provisions as to fraudulent reception)
[
s.299(2) repealed by the Broadcasting Act 1990]

(2) No such Order shall be made unless it appears to Her Majesty that provision has been or
will be made under the laws of that country or territory giving adequate protection to persons
making charges for programmes included in broadcasting or cable programme services
provided from the United Kingdom or, as the case may be, for encrypted transmissions sent
from the United Kingdom.
This make's it an offense not only to provide a service ...ie apparatus but also an offense to offer any form of 'technical/advisory' suppport on the subject .... remember Novice Angel ... all he did was write a tutorial .. and even that was a compilation of works already available on the net ... yet he got done.

Me personally believe that everyone originally had the notion that it was ok to give advice and supply boxes as long as the boxes were not 'plug 'n play'. .... ie they still needed some work to be done in order to get the channels by the end user .... however in light of recent events it has come to light that this is not the case ....

You have to understand that a majority of the Admin and staff of these forums are family people .... they really dont need to risk their families for the sake of a hobby!!

lol ... no ... the last thing on my mind m8 .... Just trying to state some facts as there seems to be alot of speculation flying around ... I am sure that the TW staff have gone over this a thousand times since the recent activities ... I for one am not questioning their judgment and they do not need me to tell them what they probably already know ... the above post was for the benefit of the members posting in this thread who were saying that all other forums are 'jumping ship' when it comes to Cable .. I just thought it would be good to tell peeps in a clear manor why this was ....

Sorry - my calling you guys 'refugees' was just a bit of tongue-in-cheek, didn't consider you guys as 'jumping ship' and don't mean for others to get that impression.

I simply regarded you as being temporarily unhomed

lol ... I actually consider myself to be a bit of a traveller ...lol (gypo ..some may say) ... so closure of forums don't really make a difference ....

One thing I do believe though is that there are quite a lot of people out there who have extensive knowledge of the cable hack .. who are looking for places to share their knowledge ........... I say 'share their knowledge' because the true pioneers of this hack never actually did this for the money .. it has always been about sharing knowledge (and getting one over the big guns ...lol) ... so remember with the 'Refugees' you maybe getting some Old "Head's of State" ... who really know what they talking about and will only help this forum grow bigger

I don’t know and we probably never will know what was happening at modshack, it would seem very harsh justice compared to what some people get up to these days. I mean you can nick someone’s car set it on fire get caught and probably just get a community service job to do for a few weeks!! To receive a prison sentence for producing a guide under an alias to hack cable TV seems a bit severe!. There might have been other things going on as well we will never know!
