Using Router with cloned modem.

Hi guys, after a week of testing, I finally got my cloned modem to work on the 20meg config, so thanks to those who have given me advice and the Haynes manual for cable modems is excellent, so big up to the authors of that also.
I'm currently using a Linksys WRT54G router and wireless on my laptop to access broadband. Would it be ok to use my desktop PC which is currently connected directly to the subbed modem I got from VM as part of the medium internet package, by plugging it into the router? I have switched the cloned mac function off on the router and substituted it with a random mac, so is it still possible to detect the mac address of my desktop network card by VM?

Im not certain but i doubt very much that Vermin can see the mac of your NIC card thru your router, especially thru the firewall and all that. just spoof it anyway if your caucious.

Lo, JOJO, Just looking into this myself, cable modem 20mb at moment but this capping is now pis_ing me off and i'm looking into getting a cloned modem or
flashing an old 200 model I have.

Any guides you can offer to your setup with the router wouldbe gratefully received.

Any model modem better than the other, Seen 1 with Infinite (or something)
that has web based settings for changingsomesettings, mac etc...

Hi George, if you are subscribing to 20meg already, I'm not too sure what benefits of getting a cloned one will bring, it still gets speed capped at peak hours! If you do go ahead with it, try and source the Haynes manual for modems, ask politely on the forum, and I'm sure someone will email it to you. As for router settings, what I do is clone the Desktop MAC, then change the last 4 digits/letters and save it before I plug the cloned mmodem in and boot up.

Cheers for the info, Going to be lowering my speed to lowest virgin do, 2mb I think, save me £29 a month.

Had enough and going this route, Eurovox is ace and best purchase ever.

the clone gets around the capping because you just change the modem mac, spoof the nic mac again, reboot and restart and heypresto, you've got a new physical host.
