If you are connecting to the dbox thru a router then it dont matter what cable you get if it is straight from pc to dbox then make sure the cable is a crossover ethernet cable. The null cable aint really neccessary unless you bugger up the flash and that can give you output for problem solving.

Personally I never use IFA unless you have the kein system or loading kernal problem.

I always ftp into the box put new image into the temp folder and then flash via remote control.

When downloading an image make sure it is the correct image, ie 1x or 2x image. If you are unsure how many chips are in the box then most nokias are 2x and most sagems are 1x, from my own experience anyways.

Good luck with the flash, just remember before flashing ftp into the box and remove your services and bouquets and then replace them once new flash is done, will save you re-scanning box.

Hope i helped and never confused ya lol

Thanks BelgyfaeEK for your reply. You have confused me a bit as I have said I am a complete beginner to all this. I will go out and get a crossover ethernet cable(I presume the guy in the shop will know what it is).sorry if I am asking something stupid but what does ftp stand for? I think I have downloaded the correct image. And I presume the tutorials will show how to flash from a remote and how to save services and bouquets

The FTP software allows you to connect to your dbox and see inside it - directorys etc...

You just dump the image into the temp file (from what i can remember), and then while still still hooked up to the PC, use the dbox remote control to apply the image.

Im sure the exact steps are floating about somewhere I just cant remember off the top of my head.

IF you are connecting you dbox via a router you don't need crossover cable just standard ethernet cable. Also you can connect with ethernet cable straight to dbox with a laptop
