Use a proper HiFi turntable, decent tonearm, cartridge and stylus. Plug it into something like a Pro-Ject phonobox USB and use your PC or laptop to record it. You can then either burn CDs or use a media streamer to play the tracks.

A decent HiFi stylus won't damage your records, unlike most of the rubbish sold in the high street and avoid DJ turntables as they tend to use higher tracking forces, which will cause more damage to your disks.

You can pick up some very good second hand turntables now for not a lot of money, and replacement cartridges and stylii are readily available.

Hope this helps. Matt.

Yep, you can't fault vinyl. Fire up the 1210's, drop the needle on the groove and off you go. Mint.

Yep your right there! I also use cdj 1000 mk3's which you have to admit are clever bits of kit but if it wasnt for the fact I get alot of unreleased promo's from various hardcore labels/producers I wouldnt have found the need to buy them.

But you'll never beat vinyl. . . . . .

Agreed, no point in vinyl at all on a crappy deck! My setup:

>Linn Sondek LP12 with Linn Akito II arm
>Naim Nait 5i CD player
>Naim Nac 202 Pre-Amplifier & Naim Nap 250 Power-Amplifier
>Naim Flatcap 2XS Power Supply
And lastly, Naim Allae Loudspeakers.

Not a bad way to spend £15k really, but then again, I'm HiFi mad so..

just in the process of coverting my vinyl to cd,never played or looked at them for ages, its mainly rock from the 70's,led zep, pink floyd etc.forgot how great the artwork on the covers was, also that I had a few picture discs(remember them?) namely pink floyd-dark side of the moon, boston and rush-hemispheres.also have quite a few limited edition red/blue and white vinyl lps, have a couple of japanese imports like Ian Gillian live at the budokan which I noticed is going for £33 at ebay.I was offered £50 for my original tygers of pan tang vinyl lp,so I guess my collection could be worth a little bit.I always put the lps in them plastic covers you could buy and kept them out of the sun etc so there in pretty good condition.

Oh cd all the way. You can play a cd on any crappy old player thats lying around and you wont damage it. I dug out some of my old vinyl recently - all the ones tried were unplayable - its all scratched from the old record decks I used 20 years ago. All my singles went in the bin!

These days if you want a blast of a favoured track its far simpler just to fire up we7 spotify or similar!

CD's are to music as diesel is to cars - second rate, cheap, nasty and smelly.

Good way of putting it

takes alot of the skill out of mixing as well, is way harder to keep a mix in on vinyl than it is on cdj's if u f**k up with cd you just hit cue and drop it straight back in, vinyl is a toatly different beast to tame!
