Hi I Have Had Exactly The Same Prob With My Sony Dvd Cam, The Way I Got Baby Stuff Holiday Photage Of Mine Back, Is By Using Testdisk/photorec,

I Am Willing To Bet U Were Using Cheaper/thinner Disks!!
The Thing With Cheap Disks And The Sony Cam They Get Slightly Damage By Pulling In Out Of Cam On Outer Edge Of Disk[well Mine Did] So In Testdisk/photorec I Messd With Sectors /heads Etc Settings And I Recovered 95% To My Hard Disk[vlc Played Fine], Also 1's I Couldn't Do , I Used Imageburn Funally Enough Just Set It To Ignore All Errors , The Captured Iso Could Be Played With Vlc Also No Probs No Jumping As B4...,

There Is Also A Live Cd Called Helix Which Is Forensic Data Recovery Very Useful ..jjust Boot Comp With It!
Test Disk/photorec M8 Though R Pretty Powerfull If U Know How To Use Em, Saved My Ass Loadz!!

Also Try Reading Them In Differnt Cd/dvd Drives/roms Etc As This May Help Also , Several Drives A Had Wouldn't Even Recognise Them But My Nec3540b Did Fine.
The Disks ,i Was Using Were Hyundai About 50p Each Of Bigpockets Dont Use These!!
Ps Some Of The Disks I Saved My Camera Would,t Even Read At All Just Erros All The Way
The Most Ive Lost Of A Disk Is About 10 % Which Usually Ammounts To Nothing Really After U Have Edited It!

Hope Help Peoplez

How much are you betting.....?

Sorry you lose...They were SONY disks at sick squid a pop. The dvd footage couldn't be read on the LG coz it wasn't finalised out the cam. Then disks got formatted TWICE. anyhow recovered with CD Roller.

ta for your concerns

gr8, glad u got it sorted m8!! i know ? when u lose important stuff, i think u panic at first! LOL
BUT SURELY FINALIZING IS WHAT U DO FIRST WHEN U WANNA PUT IT IN ANY DVD PLAYER N WATCH IT! DOH,
as u have found out it ll only be read be ur camera if not...LOL

i just thought i could help ya! but u didnt really have a prob as it does actually say on the camera itself in fairly clear writing nxt to finalize button about remembering to 'finalize for dvd player playback' i though this was standard on all sony dvd cams ?? , and finalizing is generic between all dvd cams for dvd player playback.. mine is a sony dvd handycam model dcr-dvd91e

just that i knew of a couple of people that had same prob as me, but was down to cheapy discs..[this is what we put it down to] as it was fine with the sony 1's,weve found the sony dvd cam also vibrates a fair bit when dvd is spinning[this shoudlnt be to much of a prob], but can be when just stood on a flat/hard surface when finalizing, i have found it is best to hold steady in hand, i reckon.because of this sometimes as well if the video dont play properly but is recognised by cam , u can unfinalize the disc, and then finalize for second time holding it steady this time- this can help/has me in past??

anyway the progs i mentioned in earlier post this thread TESTDISK/PHOTOREC..- can be used for no end of recovery stuff anythung from accidently FORMATTED , deleted , erased, , boot secter mbr probs partion issues, also things like corrupted memry cards cds dvds xboox hd and is compatible with anyoperating system [its well woth a look], these progs are also freeware and are very handy to have in your arsenal of progs anyway if ur a windows user, and if ur a linux user -but then ull prob allready know that there included in an array of linux flavours knoppix, knubunu?,backtrack many more already, im not sure how many..knoppix is good for recovery! also HELIX as used by FBI apparently. all of these r also free to download/use/install etc..

IF THIS AINT HELPED FOR UR PARTICULAR CAM ISSUE IT MAY BE USEFULL FOR OTHERS OR FOR ANY OTHER KIND OF RECOVERY ISSUES ULL INEVITABLY COME ACCORSS USING WINDOWS [well a computer] AT SOME POINT!

IF U DO HAPPEN AND R EVER UNLUCKY ENOUGH TO EVER LOSE DATA WETHER IT BE A HARD DRIVE, MEM CARD , ETC.
DO NOT THAT IS DO NOT WRITE ANYMORE DATA TO THAT DISK AS IT MAY GET OVER WRITTEN AND BE UNSALVAGABLE.....this may sound obvious to some but ud be supprised!

cheerz

sorry for going bit of topic but as bertiebaws didnt really have an issue , i thought id take oportunity to maybe help others on a subject along the lines of the title of the thread!
