Default Couple of newbie questions - TM5400

Hi,

I've recently bought Technomate 5400 CI+ receiver. The dish I have is the legacy of the previous owner of the flat (the ~54cm wide mesh, I presume this is the default Sky setup most of the English households have). Connected it to the receiver, and can successfully see a plenty of stuff that is on 28.2E. That was easy.

However, what I really wanted, is to use this hardware to see some channels that come on Sirius 4, Europe FSS, and it seems I ran out of luck

First, I found it impossible to add any new satellites to TM 5400. I can add new one going to the menu, set some bits and pieces, except the Sat Degree (which needs to be 4.8E). Tried everything - forums, manuals, newest TM firmware, even editing of existing satellites, all without any luck. Manual says there has to be the second setting for Sat Degree (after the name), however mine just doesn't have it! Feeling really depressed...

I presume once I loaded the data, I should be able at least to get the channel list that is broadcasted from this satellite. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Second, is it possible to rotate the dish without having the equipment (I don't have the motor so would be doing this myself)? Are there any good newbie diy articles on this topic?

Really appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

Hi Mindas, Welcome to Techwatch.

Ys, You can add new satellites, change the their degree and add transponders, what ever you want really. I am assuming of course that the 5000 series is the same as 1000 series.

Anyway to add a new sat:-

Go to the Satellite Setup menu, scroll through the list of satellites until you get "0.0E---"

The move the cursor down to Sat Degree, and put in the new position.

You can also rename by pressing the green button.

You say you have not got the Sat Degree there?

Try this instead:-

Firstly rename a 0.0E to the name you want, then press the OK button, and a new list of sats will appear, scroll down to the one you just named and put a tick next to it by pressing "save" (yellow button)

Then go to Motorised setting and change the Sat Degree there instead.

To add new transponders, do it from the Advanced Search menu.

if what I say doesn't work, post some screenshots.

If you have not got a motor, yes you can adjust the dish by hand. Use dispointer.com to find out where it is in relation to the one you want.

I don't think you'll be getting Sirius4 (4.8) Europe FSS beam on your tiddly dish though, Lyngsat says 105-130cm.

You might get the BSS beam if you are lucky.
