Default just got a new flat.....

just moved and my sky has the rights to my new flat so i sold my eurovox. with only a bt line currently installed what are my options?

are there any boxes which do not require satellite or cable?

if not, any advice regarding satellite as i would have to get a sky dish installed thus entering me into a contract with sky and eliminating the purpose of a satellite box.

cheers

depends what u mean sky has the rights, depends if there is an outlet for satellite already so you could plug in a freesat box and get the free channels

Hi, not sure what the position is in your flat, but often flats are served by a communial dish.

If not then you have a choice really of getting Sky installed, getting Freesat installed, or installing your own dish, all of course if permitted by the landlord.

There may be an IPTV solution available in your area, but this I know nothing about.

cheers.

barrat sold the rights to sky so that the flats could only be installed with sky.I am unsure as i only moved in today, but i believe there is a communial dish and a satellite socket on the wall. if this is the case can i purchase any sat box and recieve a wide choice of channels?

what is FREESAT. common sense tells me its the free sky channels but how does this get installed without entering a contract with sky.

Well, it would depend if the socket on the wall is active. Hopefully it is.

The only way I can think of checking, would be to connect a receiver to it.

A really cheap 2nd hand one or a borrowed one would do the trick.

If so, you would be able to connect a Freesat receiver to it, or any FTA digital sat receiver. This would get you all the free to air channels on 28E.

There is also the "pay once watch forever" Sky deal at Argos for £75

Check on www.lyngsat.com

what are the best satellite recievers if my socket is active other than freesat? Freesat is very limited on channels.

For SD free to air content it really doesn't matter. A Techomate 3200, or 5200
would do the job. The 5200 is PVR ready if you add a USB hard disk. Lincsat (see his sig) sells the 5200 for about £50.

Or you might be able to pick up a real cheapo from Lidl or Maplin.

For HD you are best off with a Humax Foxsat Fresat jobby for about £150, it will receive ALL FTA channels, not just the Freesat ones.
