HI

As a owner of the same box from Maplins I think your problems could be just starting,if you read other threads you will see what I mean.Best of luck with a refund because they told me they did not want to know once I put the usb stick in the front.

#
#You might invalidate the warranty, but the sale of goods act covers you
also this USB is a USB supplied, anyhow I would take it back and make a scene in the shop,if they said no, dont back down, if it went to iceland
in three weeks, get a refund, quote others on web sites with the same problem, and does this usb only take it back to factory settings.
Is it in the manual that if the USB stick is used, the warranty in invalid, this would be balls, as if it is supplied, it is there to be used, dont back down.

Bob ADD ADD I have just read the manual on the net, It tells you to
reset to factory settings every time you download new software, this is
a strange quote, this way you must loose everything? take it back
and demand your money back, this appears more a toy than a real
reciever, I have a cheapo comag £30, that gives me great service after
4 years. I agree with the previous post, trouble.

HI

Must admit I had a comag(Lidl),and had no trouble with it other than it running hot.The annoying thing is you have upgraded to something which is supposed to be better but Fortec support is rubbish,Maplins dont want to know and without the kind support of people on this site you would be reduced to tears at throwing money away.

we are all here to help, its not a case of Maplins not wanting to know, they have sold you goods not suitable for your needs, they have also sold you goods that are defective. Dont be put off, tell them if they wont change it or refund , and you have exhausted procedure with them, as a reasonable person you will have go to trading standards for further advice, just say this.

No piece of equipment from Maplin should freeze after three weeks,it may well have been out before? and returned.

Bob

I have had no such problems on my PASSION receiver. BBC HD works fine!
Everything else 'does what it says on the tin'.

As for overheating problems, can't say I've experienced those either. I have my receiver sat on the top of a 3 stack - bottom is the DVD recorder, middle is the Sky box with a 1 inch gap between the PASSION and the glass shelf above it.... it works fine!!!! Oh, and with a dragon cam installed and running for hours on end.

On other sites, a lot are complaining about the passion having faults,
As for me, I would get my money back, its a sorry state I know, but after me buying a Sony HDD full of bugs at £500, if it dont work, it goes back.

It appears nether the makers, distributors, sellers give a dam on customer
satisfaction anymore, no wonder Currys are shutting half there stores
and Maplin has gone to the dogs.

I did have a few teething problems in the 'early days' (past posts on here can confirm that) but they were mostly setting up problems and alignment etc.
My box was bought off Ebay in December - it was bought in 'new' condition and was sealed. I also experienced some 'weird' motor operation when asking the receiver to go to certain satellites - BUT, I just put that down to my inexperience (at the time) - for example putting my Sky card into my cam 'chip side up' confused the receiver and it was going to it's eastern limits when asked to go to Astra 28E - it couldn't find any of my settings. But, when the card was inserted correctly, it worked fine.

Every day my dish is going back & forth between 13E, 19.2E, 26E & 28.2E with no problems whatsoever.

I am aware that a lot of people have had problems with the Passion receiver, but to date I have had nothing that wasn't my own doing!!! (famous last words.....)
Since I bought mine, a friend bought one and also a guy in my wife's office bought one - to my knowledge both are working fine. And both were bought off Ebay just like mine.

MAYBE IT'S A MAPLIN'S PROBLEM???? Seems to be all the UK bought Maplins ones which are 'faulty'??? Just a thought!

Out of interest, when you say sealed, do you mean the outer box was never opened, or just a plastic film seal. Also Maplin may well have bought in seconds, this does happen.

Bob

A cellophane wrapper around the box. Everything inside was clearly untouched.

After doing a little research into people's problems on this forum and on other's, they all relate to Maplin's bought FS Passions.

Saying all that, I did experience a few frame break-ups last night on Film 4 whilst watching Sahara, but they were minor and didn't spoil the movie - but that is a known fault of Channel 4 not the FS Passion.
