Box frozen on BBC HD

Hi All

Hope someone can help.

My FS Passion Box was working fine this evening until I changed channel to BBC HD. Now no picture or sound although full signal strength showing. Now I cannot change channels or access the Menu – no functions work at all from the remote (red dot on STB does flash, so its obviously receiving the remote signals). Changed remote batteries just to be sure.

Front panel controls won’t respond either – the box seems stuck on BBC HD. Have tried reflashing the latest firmware – loaded OK, STB rebooted, Fortec Star splash screen ok, and box went straight back to BBC HD and stuck again.

Is there any way to force a factory reset from the front panel controls, or is there something else I can do?

Hi,when i have any probs with mine I find if you unplug from the mains and leave for 5 mins helps.Got to admit mine was fine until I installed the latest software from Fortec thats when probs started.

I've never had a problem like this until I installed the latest software either - hope its not going to be a regular problem!

The box has recovered now (after being unplugged for about 20 mins). Not sure if its the software or an overheating issue as it seems a bit hotter than normal.

Its a pleasure.Trouble is with the Fortec being so hot a unit my diablo cam gets to melting point after a decent nights viewing.I no it does not look very good but I always have the front cover down when my unit is on and also I have stood it on its own away from all other equipment,and raised it slightly on blocks.

I thought it was a sony 711, the software is the problem which all springs from the EPG on the sony. Like the internet bugs everywhere.

Yes, Sony would not admit its 711 HDD had faults, the faults were activated by the EPG(freeview) which made it freeze, Sony were well aware of the problem, so we had to discover not to use the epg to record and use the manual system, which sorted the problem.

Sony could have told us(thousands) not to use the epg to record,instead
put its head in the sand,then they said overnight soft ware downloads
would sort the problem, which they never did.

£500 I paid for the 711, Sony once excellent, now just run of the mill
cowboys.

Not sure I understand the link between the sony and fortec star, but I'm fairly new to all this. I guess it is a software lock-up when the box freezes, but have to say the Passion does get quite hot in use, and my diablo cam is sometimes so hot you almost need oven gloves to handle it

I might try improving the airflow around the box and see if I get a repeat lock-up. Until this issue it had been very reliable and stable.

Suppose it was the freeze, seems we now have to find the answer ourselves,as the makers wont admit a fault, suppose it was my finding out the sony 711 reason for freezing,thats the only connection.

My comag runs very hot, airflow helps,

It seems that other people have had the same lock up at around 7pm last night whilst viewing BBC channels. Odd or what?
