Default Ntl finding out

Hi all im new to this and dont know how to flash modem or anything but have sent my modem ambit 250 to get flashed with infinate stealth firmware but was just unsure about a few issues if anyone can help me out please. First is there any way of virgin finding out and if they cant how can they not? And how long do these modems last for can they go off and if they do stop working what would i have to do in order to get it working again? The guy told me i need to apply the config and how do i go about doing that also? Do i need any cables or can i upload it with the ethernet cable? Someone please help me. Thank you.
