Google image search on "cable forward path attenuator". Result number 1 shows the animal(s) in question.
![]() Their natural habitat is screwed directly onto the back of your box, on the end of the cable feed. cheers, fitz. Last edited by fitz; 04-06-08 at 10:02 PM. |

i'd call it a day. if its a 4001 then check your net id. I bet it says ***** ive tried manual setting of the net id using libby and funcard methods. ive lost 2 4001's and i have a feeling people are gonna loose a lot more.

Hi thanks for the reply, however the box is now saying P T, and keeps trying to power up as it goes off and says v*rgin m*dia is powering up but when it finished it just goes back to the P T and it's not getting any of the normal channels up. It went mental for a few minutes and started going through various numbers. I don't really know what is going on it worked perfectly fine before, but now this has started has someone got a soloution to this. Thanks in advance.

If that doesnt do it check capacitors near tuner and power supply, for swelling and leaking black residue, fit high temp type if you replace. Last edited by reddiesel; 23-06-08 at 02:07 AM. |

Hi
What you neeed to do is reboot the box and then hold the down arrow until it shows the boot message and then let go. That should sort it, if it shows PT etc and numbers are flashing let them flash and then it will eventually take you into Standby. Make sure you do not switch off the box whilst the numbers are flashig as this will blow the capacitors.. Koool................ |

LOL you sure aaisha?! That'd be dramatic alright.
It won't blow the capacitors, at worst it'll corrupt the flash. AFAIK the bootloader will always be ok (which is why you still get the brief ntl logo before the VM firmware proper is loaded) so if the worst happens you can just pull the red jumper to reset the NVRAM, reboot and the box will start the flash process again. Cheers, fitz. |
