Default RS232 cable to MAX V connection problems !!!!!

Having spoke to various people and checking the Techwatch Forum site I have tried to get the latest Firmware downloaded to my Eurovox Max V with the kuro Image V3 Final 18/4/08 but have had no joy in it working.

My problem is this... the RS232 ive got with the Eurovox is not able to link up with my Dell PC as it should. The RS232 goes into the back of the Eurovox but the connection or COMM PORT (I think its called that) on the back of my PC is the same as the other end of RS232 cable ( needs to be the same as the one on the back of the Eurovox) so the cable will not join to the PC.

I have since tried it with an adapter as shown in this link as someone recommended….

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-USB-2-0-to-Serial-RS232-DB9-9-Pin-Adaptor-Converter_W0QQitemZ230250827662QQihZ013QQcategoryZ 41995QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

This adapter made it possible to connect up but for some reason when I hit the download button of the kuro image the Eurovox did said on the front 'download' on it but the % bar stayed on 0% and when I tried again it just told me ‘NO AVAILABLE COM PORT’

I have been on the Forum trying to get answers but to no joy. I have Vista and people reckon that could be my problem….is this possible or does it just not like being connected to a USB port ?

Someone also showed me this link and said this might work……

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brand-New-PCI-I-O-Expansion-2-Serial-Port-RS232-Card_W0QQitemZ300226476315QQihZ020QQcategoryZ3753Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

PLEASE CAN YOU HELP ME as at the end of my patience. Can anyone tell me of a cable that will work ( e.g. right connections) or can you tell me what else I can try.

THANKS GUYS IN ADVANCE

It is not a standard Rs232 cable that you need, it needs to be a RS232 Null modem cable, there is a difference in the pin out, think 2 & 3 are swapped at one end, and 5 remains the same. This could be your problem.

Have just checked and pin out is as above, so you could butcher your standard Rs232 cable and give it a go.

2. Receive Data
3. Transmit Data
5. System Ground

Using Vista should'nt be a problem. Check your com ports in Device manager. If necessary force it to use com port 3 as this port seems to be most sucessful.

Hi ....thanks for the quick replies. I have a NULL Modem cable ( Lincsat off the forum site supplied with box)

Tried it on port 3 as advised on forum but it ended up playing havoc with my system for some reason losing all the ports that were already in use..

I do not think it wants to play ball via the USB connection.

If i go down the PCI CARD route (as worked for Peljames)...where exactly does this go in your tower ?

I suspect that you are trying to connect to a Monitor connection rather than a COM connection on your tower - that's quite a common mistake

The PCI card goes inside the Tower, there should be some expansion slots on the Motherboard.

As he is using a usb-serial adapter i think it unlikley that he is trying to connect to the vga output!!
This is the problem with these adapters they are notoriously unreliable, espcially using vista, i think this is a combo of your problems to be honest, firstly the adapter (maybe the setup isnt correct,)and the fact its on vista,

Not sure what you mean by that mate. Perhaps it reads double dutch but what i mean is i need the the same 9 pin com port on the back of my PC tower that is on the back of the Eurovox. All i have on the back of the tower is the 'blue end' connection that is on both ends of the RS232 cable so it will not connect both.

Sorry about that
