Default Darkbox REV 2008 HD OR Technomate TM-6900 COMBO HD

Hi All

Whilst I havent decided yet these 2 RX keep coming up as meeting my needs:

Darkbox REV 2008 HD (£200) and
Technomate TM-6900 COMBO HD (£265)

Both are HD and can be used as a PVR so it seems.

I have read that the Darkbox can be 'user updateble ;-)' which would be a plus.

Are they both similar quality units and is there anything to consider when choosing them apart?

I want to be able to back up programmes from the RX/HDD/PVR onto my PC and burn to DVD

TIA for the help.

Regards

Rob

ps seems a lot better value to buy the RX in with the rest of the outdoor gear (better price discounts)

Both can be patched via a USB stick, the Darkbox only has a single satellite tuner where the Technomate has a satellite and freeview terrestrial one and this is HD so when freeview broadcast HD content then the Technomate will be able to show it, Darkbox have just launched a combo unit with a VFD display this costs £220. Also for the extra money the Technomate is better built and the menu and set up is very easy.

These units do not have a HDD built in you have to connect a USB HDD or eSata HDD if using the Darkbox

The impression I get so far on the Darkbox HD is that the softare is 'buggy'. My opinion only, as I have no experience of either, but when I go HD, I'll probably go for the Technomate. This is mainly based on my experience with the TM1000D+ that I have. The TM also gets ITV HD, don't think the Darkbox can.

That's not a given, as the tuner may not be (or be software upgradeable to be) compatible with the DVB-T2 spec which is likely to be a prerequisite to terrestrial HD broadcasts.

Maybe, but speaking to Technomate they believe they won't have any problems!

I am looking for a sat box that can record subtitles. Have looked at FortecStar Passion+ which can only display subs but not record.

Can the Darkbox or Technomate record subtitles?
