Cosmo TV comes to Germany

International women’s channel Cosmopolitan TV is planning to launch in Germany this autumn, with an application for a broadcasting licence already lodged with Bavarian media authority BLM.

Jochen Kröhne, former head of German women’s channel TM3, will be managing director of operating company Cosmopolitan TV Germany GmbH. The channel anticipates going on air in October as a pay-TV service on digital platforms. Kröhne is currently negotiating carriage with cable operators such as Kabel Deutschland and Unitymedia. Cosmopolitan TV is already available in more than 20 countries, including Spain, Canada and Latin America. The round-the-clock service, targeting women between the ages of 18 and 35, comprises mainly TV series, feature films and lifestyle, advice and entertainment programmes.

The TV station is backed by US media concern Hearst Corporation, which also publishes the international women’s magazine Cosmopolitan. The German edition of the magazine is produced by publishing house MVG (Marquard Media), which is not involved in the new TV project, but is “examining the possibilities of cross medial networking between print, TV and online.”
