Default Fortec Star Passion -frame jumps?

Hi guys

Got a new Fortec Passion 65cm kit from Maplin for camping use (got a tripod to go with it) and i am pretty pleased with it, having been away from satellite for a decade.

Just one question; but first off I don't know if this is a quirk to the Passion or Sky's compression methods in general so I don't want to be unfair to Fortec...

Here goes, when back home watching say ITV+1 on Sky on a bigger screen I get more critical. When viewing actors/scenes as they move or pan around on screen, there is a judder that manifests like some frames are being missed, sort of twice a second the screen does a 'fast forward' jerk to catch up. I hope you understand what I am trying to artiiculate, it's definately there... anyone enlightend me?

ps I did the latest software upgrade which was a breeze. Oh and the receiver keeps me tent lovely and warm at night

Hi

I have the same problem at the moment, but only on certain channels. All the problems I have had lately all seem to stem from the latest upgrade,it was fine before that. The more problems I hear about the more I regret buying this receiver. Will not be trusting Maplins advice anymore.

Hi

Found out that when frame jumps if you turn down the output it stops.Seems to be defeating the object as this receiver is supposed to work at 1080 thats why you buy it for the hdmi.

If your watching something fast paced, like a football match, or, i find, something that is being broadcast live, and you are watching in 1080i the image will stutter, and find it difficult to keep up. This is because 1080i is an interlaced feed, meaning that the picture is slower at refreshing...

1080i is brilliant to use on programs with non-moving images, such as watching Planet Earth, etc.

To watch any other type like the football, or live broadcast, use 720p. The picture will still look brilliant, and the stuttering will stop.

Sorry to say mine does not.I was watching a normal programme on ITV3 the other night and I had to turn it down, yet the sport on another channel was fine.Still of the opinion that the people on here are right, better off with a technomate or a dreambox,as the support from Fortec is rubbish and Maplins dont want to know as soon as you have put that usb stick in, even though the software is from Fortec site.

Seems to be a problem on channel 4 and channel 4 channels, both film4 and other itv channels are affected, Bought mine from Maplins about 6 weeks ago but have been in contact with Fortec Star regarding the picture problems according to them they have had no complaints about this .

Quote =We have checked this issue and have not experience it, additionally it has not been reported by anyone else at this point using the new software. Are you getting ITVHD with the version you are using?

Latest reply when told others are having the same problem is

I just had another email and it is now being checked. There was a slight issue a few versions back but it was fixed. I am sure with a slight tweak of the software the problem will be resolved.

So if you can send an email to Fortec so that they know that others are having the same problems it might help to speed things up more.

We are trying to get others to join in to complain to Fortec so please help out send in an email with the problems that you are having in the uk the address is

fortecUK@fortecstar.com

Many Thanks

Looks to me like Maplin's are selling dodgy equipment.

I have had my FS Passion receiver since December and it is spot on. I am assuming my model is an import because when I ran the initial setup at the time, all the settings were for the Middle East. A factory reset soon altered all that though!

Like I said in my other post on the same subject, all my faults with my Passion were self inflicted. I love this receiver - the HD pictures on my Samsung LCD HD TV are second to none and it copes with 1080i brilliantly with no stutter of break-up of picture (except of course when BBC lose their pictures due to storms across Austria/Switzerland during the footie that is )
I can record well via the scart onto my DVD recorder.

My dish is bouncing back & forth between 4 satellites every single day, and it never fails to respond. Perfect picture, every time!

Awefully glad I didn't buy mine from Maplin's now.....

Bought it off Ebay for £90 - brand new. The seller was a UK seller, but the receiver was definitely not a Maplin's bought receiver - the settings and menu's were not in English.
