TNT Serie comes to Germany
US broadcaster Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) is planning to bring its international entertainment channel TNT to Germany next year.
The pay-TV service, which will screen international series, plans to launch in German-speaking Europe in January 2009 under the name TNT Serie, TBS Deutschland announced in Munich. The channel, specialising in the genres drama, crime and comedy, will be distributed via cable, satellite and ADSL. Programmes will be shown in widescreen format 16:9 and viewers will be able to choose between the dubbed German version and the original language.
Among the series which the new channel will screen, are the German premieres of award-winning 30 Rock and Friday Night Lights, the pay-TV premieres of Monk, King of Queens, Smallville, Gilmore Girls and Psych and well known series such as Emergency Room and Everybody Loves Raymond. “TNT Serie is the channel for everyone who loves series. We aim to be the best series channel in pay-TV,” said Hannes Heyelmann, managing director of TBS’s entertainment branch in Germany.
The channel will mainly compete with Fox Channel, which Rupert Murdoch’s international media concern News Corp launched on pay-TV platforms in Germany on May 19. TBS already operates news channel CNN as well as Cartoon Network, Boomerang and film channel TCM in German-speaking Europe.
