Default Help Re Low SNR

Hi,

Firstly, like many others would like to thank all for their contribution as it's helped me learn a great deal in the space of a few days really as I just purchased a dbox a couple weeks ago and only found techwatch a few days ago. The box overall seems to be working well bar a few problems which I really need to sort and that's where I am hoping your expertise come in.

The dbox is up on the second floor (attic) where it is plugged in to the box at the wall, with this most channels appear minus a few on one specific transponder that I know of and maybe another I don't.

Let me set the scene. Most channels appear with SNR is between 53,000 - 61,000 but it's from my understanding it should be around 65,000 but nevertheless these channels still appear without too much of a hitch. If anyone knows how to improve that it would be much appreciated.

The problem occurs with the following channels on the following transponder(s)...

<transponder id="004c" onid="0031" frequency="395000000" inversion="2" symbol_rate="6887000" fec_inner="3" modulation="3">
<channel service_id="1db1" name="The Hits" service_type="01"/>
<channel service_id="1db2" name="The Music Factory" service_type="01"/>
<channel service_id="1db3" name="Virgin 1" service_type="01"/>
<channel service_id="1db4" name="speed auction tv" service_type="01"/>
<channel service_id="1db5" name="Virgin 1 +1" service_type="01"/>
<channel service_id="1db6" name="Setanta Sports 1" service_type="01"/>
<channel service_id="1db7" name="NASN - American Sports" service_type="01"/>
<channel service_id="1db8" name="UKTV Drama +1" service_type="01"/>
<channel service_id="1db9" name="BBC1 England" service_type="01"/>
<channel service_id="1dc0" name="BBC1 N Ireland" service_type="01"/>
<channel service_id="1dcd" name="BBC ONE Audio Desc" service_type="01"/>

The SNR for the above and whatever transponder that Smash Hits (another channel I have lost and been able to get back) was on is between 18,000 - 30,000 meaning no picture instead I get 'error channel not available' message. I'e set my location and rescanned and the channels only appear in boquet and are able to watch if I adjust the coax and the coax to f plug adaptor, I can sometimes increase the SNR so it's anywhere between 47,000 - 53,000 by adjusting this.

I asssumed it was a poor signal and purchased the Konig Yellow Brick TV amplifier and even after adjusting the gain and slope the SNR sits between 18,000 to 30,000.

I've got a Sagem DBox 1x Chipset with the latest Laky Pro I've just flashed to yesterday. I've removed the splitter at the wall and again all to no avail. I've tested another box where the above transponder feeds through fine and I face the same problem so it seems to be the line.

Is there anything I could possibly do cos I'm real beat up over this one!

Any help/response is greatly apppreciated, thanks!

Regards,

L.

Not to worry. By ruling things out one by one I figured it was my coax cable.

I need to purchase a new one anyway, anybody recommend a good quality coax cable or do they not matter?

you want to buy shielded cable ct100 i think it's called wf100, plenty on feabay.....i'd get the correct length with crimped f-plugs....not keen on the screw type myself.

Okay looks like I was wrong.

When I changed the coax cable the SNR went up and channels appeared. I've come back today and the channels on that same transponder have gone and SNR dropped again.

Does wireless equipment affect the signal in anyway? Because I've only moved where I placed my wireless network card.

on a few of these boxes the connecter on the back of the box becomes a little loose. go onto a channel with the problem press red/blue for snr and gently move the connection at the back of the box...see if ur snr varies

Hey,

Thanks for the advice but it doesn't seem to be the coax as I first though it's just too strange. The connector on the back seems fine, I've tested another box which the above transponder works for sure but didn't work for me.

At night if I unscrew the coax and put it back in SNR for all channels will rise to 63,000 - 64,000.

However the next morning/afternoon the channels on the above transponder all say error channel not available with SNR at 22,000. Is it the box at the wall?

Has anyone any ideas what could cause this cos I'm all out.
