Default Which Chip 512 or 1024?

I am hoping to modify the SA 8300 V+ HD Box... I have tried the atmega net id method to change the net id, but with not much luck.

Could someone please let me know exactly which chip needs to be lifted as i am a little confused. In one tut that i read it said change the 1024 chip... but most posts on the forum say change the 512.

I have got one of each from fleet... if anyone has any pics of what chip needs to be changed or point me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Its the 512 one-it's the only 8 leg chip under the board. Be VERY careful removing it-the pads are extremely sensative and pull off easily Take your time and lift slowly and make sure you make a note of which way round it goes when replacing-the pin1 has a small indent on chip. Good luck.

Thanks for that... I was just wondering if you could also advise what the best solder iron would be to use to do this (never soldered anything in my life) also which solder to use (i.e temp etc)

I have done 3 of these and have used a solderpro from Maplins. Great piece of kit and a hell of alot cheaper than a hot air rework. I've not tried a solderong iron to remove but use one to replace the chip. I would strongly advise to buy one of these, I paid £20 for mine on offer but £20 invested is better than the £100+ down the drain if you balls it up!!

1st one mine, went sweet as a nut, 2nd for my daughter-feckin nightmare-lifted pad on pin1 but lucky enough found a TUT from a guy and seen pin1 could be linked to pin8 so got away with that oneLast one just done but couldn't get the NetID to change with Atmega, Fun so lifted the chip and fitted a blank-still no go, so lifted a further 3 times and eventully got the chip to read/write with new NetID hey presto up and running.Brother going to be the happy reciprient of box tomorrow so hope he gets me drunk

But please be VERY careful removing the chip-take the time and go nice and easy and ease the chip up and don't force it.

Good Luck

Edit:If you have never attempted soldering I would advise you to have a practice on a scrap board of some sort before having a go-I had an old VCR that was dumped in the garage years ago and had a bash at removing chips from that.Worth doing as as if you make a mess of it you have one expensive doorstop!!

I'll get a solderpro tomorrow and mess around with it on an old board... I also bought a chip programmer from fleet just thinking it may be easier to program the net id onto the new chip before i put it in what software is needed to do this and is there any guides available?

just had a look on maplins website is it the solderpro 70 or solderpro 120?

Have a look in the downloads under TV-DRIVE TOOL - Thats the software I used to change the NetID on mine after getting a good read of chip. There's a TUT on how to position chip in progarmmer etc on V+ box but was on another forum which has since removed downloads

I managed to get a friend to de-solder the 512 chip and put a new blank chip in its place... however when I tried to update the net id with an atmega it would not update...

I then programmed a new chip with a virgin dump with my area settings and got my friend to replace the chip...

Just got the box back a few hours ago and plugged it in now I get ERR 40 this box is sending me nuts.

Try reset up down and left to reboot and update, if that doesnt work its a dry joint or bad connection on chip.

Err40 is almost certainly a dodgy solder joint-did you check the dump you put on before soldering?-Run it through TV Drive Tool and see if it picks up correct NetID.

I programmed the chip using ponyprog and checked the dump had my settings.... I just checked the chip that my friend had previously soldered to the board and it looks like pad 1 has come off it is stuck to the blank chip how should i advise my friend to solder it.... also how would i know that i programmed the chip correctly?
