Default Putting PC Together

I have got a few pc bits lying around, i am wanting to build a pc out of them.

I have got:

2x hard drives
1x dvd rom drive
1x dvd writer
1x floppy

the motherboard has 3x IDE slots + 1x seperate slot for floppy.

My problem is which ones do i use as master and slave etc.. also in the BIOS which one do set up to boot up first, second and then third?

Default Re: Putting PC Together

master/slave etc is selected using jumpers on bak of hd's

lowest number is the 1st, highest is the last!
so
ide0 slot would pirmary -master/slave
ide1 slot would be secondary-master/slave
and so on
[as ribbon cables usually have to points to connect ides to, 1 at end(master)-1 in middle(slave)!]
apart from floppies there single with a twist in em., if u have single cables follow the last option below!]

just set all drives to cable select by jumpers put the 2 hdds on first ide slot[lowest number] put master the 1 ur going to boot from on end of ribbon cable put the 2nd drive in middle

put dvd on next ideslot next number up and set to cable select on bak
floppy to only floppy

in bios just select to boot from 1st hdd if this is where ur windows/linux [os] are

or select cd drive if u wanna boot from cd i leave mine on this as i use live cd alot it saves time going into bios all time!

if u wanna dual boot easily or only have single point ide ribbon cables , i spose u could put each drive in a seperate ideslot, set all to cable select and connect to ends of ribbon cables, in bios it will giv option to boot of either hard drive i would say?
obviously connect ur dvd to the last ide slot

set it to boot from floppy if u really want!!!

fastest boot option , set it to boot from the drive where windows resides usually the primary/master!!

this is really pretty basic stuff, soundz like more reading and just trying differnt things is needed!! hope helpz bit m8..
