which modem do u recommend

ok i am new to this sorry for being a nob have read quite a few posts !

ive got a cable line in my house and wanted to know if i can patch a cable modem and use it for internet?

which cable modem do u recommend me getting and where from because ebay is the only site i know!

and can some one send me the guide to modem patching would be nice lol

if i do manage to patch the modem how long will it last and can i connect a wireless router to it to connect it to my laptop?

get a preflashed 250/255 or motorola 5101e

u dont need it if u have a preflashed modem, if want to flash ur own, find the haynes cable modem guide.

ive had mine a year so far, who knows how much longer it will last,connecting it to a wireless router,should be no problem.

ive just orderd my ambit 250 flashed with infinate software whats the next step after that should i connect the cable feed and ethernet cable and search sniff for mac?

should you sniff mac at someone in a different ubr than you's house?
Im using someones mac in the same ubr and on speedtest it doesnt show the proper speeds... but downloading it does...

ok i live in london can i obtain mac address any one in london? cant i search it my self with a patched ambit 250 ? without mac address on it ? just put cable feed in it? i need a mac address and tctp ip is well i dont know any one thats got ntl broadband in there house where else can i obtain it?
