Default cablem modem help please

hi peeps i would be very grateful if some one could help me
i have a back virgin 255 modem that was working until last week im in the stoke on trent area and need help if some one would point me in the right direction i want to flash the modem my self so i need to know how really ive been on the haynes manual but it seems to be down at mo so all i need is to someone tell how!
and what i need to connect the modem to my pc and what programs i need and where to get them from thanx everyone for looking

have the black 255 been done yet as far as i know they can not be done ?????
