Unhappy Poor signal on 1 frequency only

My wife uses our satellite set-up (80cm dish & Humax VA-FOX receiver) to watch Persian channels on Hotbird. Most channels are fine except for two on frequency 11642 (H, 27500, 3/4) where the signal quality fluctuates and the picture breaks up. Sometimes it's OK for 10 minutes or so. Other times it breaks up immediately. The weather doesn't seem to matter. I've changed the LNB and tried a different receiver but this didn't help. The signal strength is typically steady at about 75% but the signal quality fluctuates from 50-75%. The question is: how can we have a problem with only one frequency? Can anyone shed any light on this mystery?

Hi, It sounds like it may be interference from another source.

Try completely turning off your cordless phone to see if that improves it.

could also be microwave interference and that's not the 800w version

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a try.

Sadly the cordless phone doesn't seem to make a difference. Interestingly (or rather perplexingly) the channel was perfect for a couple of days last week but is now back to the fluctuating signal quality and periodic picture break-up. This is independent of whether the cordless phones are on or not.

I had an email saying that SAT-WORLD had posted a message but I can't see it on the forum? Anyway, the frequency is correct. The channel is SAT 7 Pars on Hotbird 6. See http://www.lyngsat.com/hb6.html

Are you sure the dish alignment is optimised. Worth giving that a check.

The dish is motorised so it's quite easy to use the receiver to move it left/right and check the effect on the signal. And guess what: that doesn't help either!
