ambit modem registration problem

Hello,
I have got 2 modems (Ambit 250/255), without usb. When I try to connect them to vm cable line, I get the following message:
'we need to register your modem, before you can start using the internet.'
I think they have been bricked. I want to install firmware in both of them, in order to make them usable. But I think I can't flash them without using max232 cable. It would be great, if you can guide me in the following things:
1- Do I need to remove any IC or TSOP from my modems?
2- Where can I get max232 cable or any other, which works with vm255 modem, and a connection diagram as well?
3- Haynes website has got some problems? Where can I get Haynes manuals and infinite firmware?
Any helps are highly appreciated.

no not bricked bad macs m8,soz never read it right,,but the proplem you got is that you put them in the stream, so i think they would have updated,,,,to all ppl doing this do not put cable feed into the modem till the are protected, they will update and you really dont wont that

so that means that this modem wnt work at all :S? beacuse i have got the same problem :S

you need max232 cable, and hope you get the p, but soon has you put it in the stream then thats it you will need a william programer i think

but, what will happen, if the modem is not protected, will it be bricked, or will they approach me, as why am I connecting that modem.
Also, what do you mean by 'p'?
I think, I don't need to take out the IC and put into programmer, because max232 cable can do the programming via serial port!
But the problem is, that where can I get the ready to use cable and software?
Anybody knows?,

when we hack a modem (250/255) we get 3 options , but after the update they take 1 options away,witch is the p, we need that to put in the hackware

do we flash the modem only, when it is bricked?

But, I doubt, that these files are not applicable to my modem, because, these files are for ambit 200/250 modem. Whereas, my modem is vm255
