Default Connecting hacked modem to router?

hi guys i am new to the forum and new to setting up routers so please take it easy.
I have a hacked ambit250 and i want to set up a wireless router so i can use my laptop in the kitchen.
is this possiable to connect the Ambit modem to the wirless router then setup a network to work on the laptop?

yes just put yer modem to the router and the router to your main computer via ethernet and see if it connects then if it does open yer router via ip addy and turn on wireless and then set a wep password so no1 else connects to it .....
