Default My basic set up

Heres my basic set up. Nothing special. I am going to buy a dream box and get my dish motorised. Next door don't have side windows so they can't see it It's only pointed in the astra position. Its a 80cm dish (i think) had it for 2 years. Only watch it for the boxing in Germany but will expand my viewing once i learn how to.

Hi, and Welcome to Techwatch.

It should't be too much of a problem motorising that. Add a Disecq 1.2 motor for about 30 quid and that is all you should need. Just get the pole 100% vertical.

looks good as already said a diseqc 1.2/usals compatible motor would be a good addition later on and you should easily get to 30east and a lot to the west depending whether you have a clear view

Thanks i will work on it next week. Some questions i thought i would post on here.

1) How do you move the dish with the motor. Is it by a remote or something else and how is it powered.
2) Can you easily switch between images on the dream box and can you have more than one on their.
3) What is it with more than one LNB on a dish i have seen. Some people have 2 some people have 4. I think its something to do with more range in the degrees?
4) When i buy a motor i will need to get someone in. How much do you think this will cost.

Hi,
With a Diseqc motor, the control signals/power for it are sent down the coax cable, it just moves when you change sat on the receiver.

For a 36V motor, you normally need a V-box to interface between Diseqc1.2 and 36V. But once setup up, again, it just moves to the right place. Although the v-box can be used stand alone with its own remote.

Yes with more than one LNB you can pick up more than one satellite with a single dish, up to say 20 degrees total, maybe more if you are lucky. You do it by knowing the angle between the sats, eg for 13E and 19E, the LNBs would be 6 degrees apart.

At a rough guess, Iwould have thought a couple of hundred, maybe more maybe less. Free if you DIY.

you can use a usb memory stick and install them to this and then select which one you want to use when the dreambox loads up

analoguesat and plenty of others can help you with this i'm sure

DVB-S for satellite

DVB-C for the dreaded cable TV

DVB-T for terrestrial.

So if you want to connect to a dish, you want DVB-S.
