I had this error several times - it means either you are entering some settings wrong or not doing things in the right order i.e
1. at connection type select telnet enter other details and click on 'connect'
2. wait for it to read details(mac address etc) from the modem
3. then, change details and click 'write settings'

Invalid username/password (reboot modem before trying again)
is what my configurator says if i use the wrong name and password.
the comm error occurs only when there is no connection, is ur firewall blocking the app ?

if your passwords are admin/infinite you better change this really fast, cos they can update your modem when they like

did u buy or build max cable---if built and followed the novice angel guide , check which way round u put in capacitors???????????? and doubkle check rest of sodler joints , if its brought and all settings r correct may be a fault, could have blown the maxi chip if connected wrong way thouigh unlikely

the way i worked out which way toi connect them was to happen to look on the jtags4all website and notice the wire for the max cable had the pins labvled so i quickly noted them down and what ya know , just a bit of common sense really is all thats needed with maybe a little help along the way like us all!! some more than others though,,, thats not pointed at any1 by way just an obsourvation.
