Default Di4001n - forced update/stuck in tune etc ???

Hi guys - don't know if anyone can help at all.

I have pulled the red jumper on a 4001 in pure have set freq and pin and it is stuck in tune. I reboot holding down the CH- button and it then it gets to the powering up - just a moment screen and dosent go passed this.

I have read about the Netid etc and this is as stars at the moment and a few tuts say that this box in pure will auto update.

I am trying to get the box to do a forced update but i am holding all different buttons to try and get the 0000 or 4321 etc and cannot do a forced update on this box.

Can anyone help at all ????

>>>>>>>>

I was changing the frequency but forgettiong to press services to retune the box - however when i do retune the frequency the box goes straight into tune and i cant then even get back into the eng menu holding (CH+ and CH-) or get to the power up screen (pressing CH-) - The only way to get back into the eng menu is to pull the red jumper again. I have also read that the capacitors can go inside the box and need changing - the reding i had for the SNR estimat was 18.2 dB - would this be the problem ???

Thanks again for your help

Hi. Yes a SNR of 18 is very poor and would cause you a problem. The search button is your friend in this case, there's lots of info about pace boxes being 'stuck in tune' already available.

I'd have a read and hopefully it'll get sorted.

cheers, fitz.

If your SNR is around 18dB I would suspect the 2 caps C323 and C325 will need changing-They are the 2 caps behind the card reader to left and just in front of 2 tuners.

Try this:

1. Remove lid and with cable feed connected boot up into engineers menu.
2. When in engineers menu go to page that shows SNR (5 if I can remember?)
3. Now apply heat using a lighter on solderpro with heat fitting to the 2 caps C323 & C325. After about 10 secs you should see the SNR rise to 30dB+ hopefully-if it does it will mean removing and replacing these 2 caps as 1 or both is faulty.

I have repaired 4 or 5 doing this and it's worked 100% for me.

The pace boxes take a while to tune, i recommened leave it for a while 20/25mins, if that still dont work reset the box by pulling the red jumper out and switching the box on whilst the jumpers still out and then power down and put the jumper back on. Then try setting the netid and pin!!! with fun if need be!!

IME PACE boxes only take a while to tune when the tuning / filter caps are on their way out, or if you're signal's poor.

In pure areas you won't need to set your NETID.

Good info from afcwomble.

Hi guys - have removed the two caps and replaced - could only get hold of 35V 220µF rather than the 25V 220µF but gave it a go !!!. Bit fiddly and I am not the best solderer to be honest but i got it done OK.

I pulled the jumper again and reset pin and freq to 755Mhz, went to SNR and it took a while but it went straight to 18.3dB again. I dont think it is the signal as I have another Di4001n working ok and both of them have been on at the same time before.

However after about 5 mins the Db rose to 19 then 20 end even 24 but kept going back to the 18.3dB.

I have noticed that the Tuner AGC and IF AGC both changed from 50% to 75% and then went back to 50% also.

Howver when i reboot i get the powering up just a moment when holding the CH- key but then it restarts comes up with 'PACE' and goes back to tune again and if i then reboot with CH- held down it goes back to tune and I cant get to eng menu without pulling the jumper again !

Anything else i can so short of getting a new box lol ??

Thanks again for your help. -

Edit ---- Have just noticed that when the DBR changes the lock status also changes sometimes from Locked to unlocked and back again !! Dont know if this is relevant at all ??? And I presume that 755, 000 MHz is correct ??

Edit ---- When reading more posts I checked the cable feed going into the tuner part of the box and noticed that that the end of this was loose and just came out of the tuner box. I resoldered the little metal clip back on and did up tight and checked again - staying at 18.3dB and not moving at all now !!! Maybe it is the tuner that has gone.

Time for the bin you think guys ?????

Check in eng menu that attenuation is disabled same page as pin, if it is it possibly is tuner fault.
