NOOOOOO.

I love the train trips in an evening. They are a great way to unwind at the end of a long day.

Deutsche Bahn banks on internet

Germany’s national railway company Deutsche Bahn will cease transmissions of its television channel Bahn TV on Astra (19.2° East) on July 1, concentrating instead on distribution via the internet.

“We are convinced that the future of television is the internet,” said Oliver Schumacher, head of corporate communication. “On this basis we have the possibility to create offers for more specific target groups and give users the chance to compile their own schedules.” Deutsche Bahn says it is also responding to changes in viewing preferences. The current practice of spreading distribution on the internet as well as via satellite no longer meets the demands of the diverging viewing patterns, the company explained.

Internet users can access individual programmes at www.bahntv-online.de as video-on-demand, when ever they choose and at a time to suit themselves. An electronic programme guide assists viewers to find content which corresponds to their interests, whether reports, news or feature programmes.

The channel, which was launched in January 2001, offers information and entertainment relating to railways, travel, mobility and logistics.

They may see the internet as the future but is far easier to doze off in an evening listening to the trains whist watching a satellite channel rather than having a laptop computer perched on your lap....

Decision made I am afraid, DB now a PLC is a different animal ,costs
will be looked into, if only you could book on Sat, but alas you can not.

Entertainment is through the door, here in Wrexham you can book on a mobile and have your ticket by mobile,a bar code is shown to the train manager on your mobile, thats it, and this is a DB subsidery(Wrexham/Shropshire rail Co).

It was good, but suppose revenue is key, and costs for Sat are now
on the agenda, great shame.
