Default Pentium 4 3.4GHz HT LGA775 Overclocking

Can I overclock this CPU? I understand that the clock multiplier is locked on this model but is there a way around it? Cheers.

Looking through a few of the overclocking forums I think it would be possible but haven't tried it myself on that chipset. You could try to use a program like ClockGen and see if that gives you any indication.. what's the worse that could happen, apart from your pc going "bang"

Haha that's what i'm worried about. I have just bought a new cooler "Coolermaster Hyper TX2" as I was planning to overclock. Will this cooler be sufficient enough to do so? Cheers.

Yeah, it should do the job, just make sure any old thermal compound is removed from the cpu before you add this one. It's a good unit, used them in the past but I seem to use the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro these days a lot more, it's quiet and seems to cool the CPU really well.

Ok. I was looking at an Arctic Freezer but decided upon the Coolermaster. It comes with thermal paste pre-applied. I will try and overclock my CPU soon lol. Hope it doesn't go up in smoke lol. Cheers for your help anyway.

If you crank of the speed slowly you should be ok, most chipsets support overclocking to some degree. On the thermal compound, when you remove the old heatsink you may notice that some is left on the cpu, you need to clean that off first, this is to ensure the new thermal paste actually covers the CPU fully, a lot of problems can be caused if you dont ensure the cpu is clean first.. trust me, I've seen chips pop before..good laugh to see but expensive :-)

Haha, i've already cleaned the CPU of any thermal paste so it's shiny haha.
