I have just purchased a TNTSAT box to recieve the french freeview channels. I already have on the side of my flat an old satellite dish from the previeous resident. It is vey old and tatty and I am not sure it is still working. I am also under the assumption that it will probably be to small if it is an old sky dish. I have looked on Ebay and found SKY zone 2 discs which are 60cm in siwe which I have read is the size I need. My question there fore is would one of these discs be suitable to pick up TNTSAT on Astra 1? I just wanted to check that SKY dont fix them somehow to only work with ASTRA 2l
I would be most grateful of some advice! |

A dish is a dish. It doesnt care what satellite its pointing at. If its an old round dish the lnb (the bit on the end of the arm) may need replacing. If its a sky oval dish it will need re-aligning from 28E to 19E.
Are you sure your receiver is a TNT satellite box? TNT freeview could indicate its a dtt terrestrial box.

Thanks for the quick reply!
The dish I currently have is a round one which I am guessing gives it away as an old dish, and the lnb looks all rusty which makes me wonder if it is still working. I havent recieved the box yet so havent had a hance to check it. The box I have oredered is a Strong SRT 6410 which was advertised as use with a dish to recieve the channels from Astra 1 at 19.2e. So if I understand correcly the LNB on a new zone 2 sky dish would be fine, but an old one may need replacing? |

Yes the receiver you have ordered is for satellite.
The old dish should be fine, just get a new LNB for it. The Sky LNBs are specifically for the elliptical Sky dishes and not for round ones. I assume th eold Sky dishes had a 40mm collar, so a 40mm neck universal LNB would do the trick. Robbo

Give the bolts that hold the lnb in place a GOOD dose of WD40 or GT85 a few days before you want to replace the lnb - the nuts will have rusted up.
If you cant safely reach the dish call the professionals in - its not worth saving a 50 quid bill if you put yourself in hospital by falling off a ladder! If the dish is very rusty then think about buying a new one - you can get them cheaply enough these days.
