Default DiSEqC motor for sky dish

Hi,

I just replaced my skybox with a Dreambox 500S running Gemini and ccCam, I have a valid subscription card. My sky minidish dish is pointing at 28.2E, now I'd like to receive services on other satellites like Astra1 and Hotbird. Is my best option to install a DiSEqC motor? Would I just be able install the motor and configure my 500s to use DiSEqC? Is it easy to do myself? I've never installed a dish before. Would this do? _http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=100899&doy=11m6&C=SO&U=strat1 5.

Any advice?
Thanks, any help is appreciated.

Yes, a motorised dish is within the capabilities of most.

Just find a south facing wall ideally with a good view of the sats and you are half way there.

Here's a comprehensive guide to fitting a motor:-

How to install a DiSEqC motor the right way

and here is a really simple one:-

Installing A Motor With Photos

The most important point is to get the pole 100% vertical. After that it needs to be setup for your nearest due south satellite.

Have a read, and if you get stuck just ask.

Yes, that motor from Maplin would be fine, but it is a bit pricey

Try here.

At time of posting he was doing them for £35 for Techwatch members.

A minidish is really a bit small for motorising, although it will give you some of the stronger sats.

Id advise you leave the minidish where it is and motorise a second (bigger) dish.

Yeah, I had my minidish motorised for a little while, it was fun as a real beginner while it lasted and very easy to set up, but reception was limited to the stronger satellites. An 80cm+ is much better.

Thanks guys, I've ordered a motor.

I have another issue though, I was watching the footie tonight and suddenly I got a message on the DB that the service couldnt be found, it was BBC1 and now it says it for all services.

What I noticed was that before this happened I had a BER of zero, now it suddenly isnt zero anymore. Does that mean my dish is not properly aligned? It hasn't changed compared to when it was working.

It could be a number of things including

Dish mis-alignment,
Faulty LNB,
Cable damaged/broken/not conected properly,
A tree has suddenly sprouted leaves/up and is blocking your signal,
Your receiver has croaked/thrown a wobbly.

It is a process of elimination.

If you have the Sky box stll, try that, see if it still gets a signal.
