Smile smart card slot ?

Hi I’ve just bought a Fortec Star Mercury 2 motorised system from Maplins and hope to install this weekend, I notice the receiver has a card slot. Can I purchase a card to view ppv channels or is it purely for FTA stuff?
Thanks in advance

Strange, according to the Fortec website, the receiver is FTA and there is no mention of a card slot. Is there actually a card reader in the slot?

Angry Re: smart card slot ?

Er... on closer inspection and trying to stick my sky card in there is a plastic bit stoping the card going in ...so I guess not then.
Thanks for pointing that out.

On a different tack any one had issues with quality control on this brand/model ?
I'v just had Maplins replace the dish kit as half the bits where missing and no assembly instructions, checked new kit in the shop (not well enough) took it home only to find two right hand pole supports instead of a left and right. Will be asking for some discount and emailing Mr Maplin

I had a Fortec Beta receiver and it was utter *****. The thing would wait untill you had all your sats scanned and all the channels sorted into order and then it would crash, requiring a factory reset to fix it, which lost all the channels.

The dish I got was OK though, nothing missing anyway. I picked up from the store a sealed box. I don't know if that makes a difference.

Which dish was it?

Is there no way you could save your satellites settings, like you can with the dreambox Robbo, just a though that might save having to do them again, but I suppose not?

Good luck with the install mate, please let us know how you get on and if you hit any trouble we are here to help.

Very best regards Wez

It's a 90cm fortec dish, I asume once it's all installed and working I can just upgrade the reciever to something better and the rest will work ok ?

I got rid of the pile of crap Wez, so I never got that far to investigate.

Yes, the dish should be fine, the az/el bracket on the back is a bit flimsy, but it does the job, it is the same one as I have, now chucked at the bottom of my garden rotting away.

And yes, changing the receiver to another would work fine.

Was it the STAB motor you got? or the Moteck?

What are you thinking of getting?

i have the same reciever alongside my tm3100, the card slot isnt blocked its just something thre to stop dust from getting insinde during its transportation. it takes a slightbit of force to brake it, but thre is a card slot. i was thinking of taking this card reader out and putting it into my tm3100 which should convert it into tm 3200, then loading 3200 firmware on.is this possible?
regards

I think you will find that there is a slot, but nothing actually behind it, i.e no card reader.

My TM1000D came with a similar blanking plate, which I removed. I purchased a card reader for my TM1000D and converted it to a TM1000D+.

I think you will find that the card readers are receiver specific. You should be able to get a card reader for your model, I have seen them for the 5000 series. Maybe one of those will work with it.
