set up help

Hi folks.
Just wondering if anyone could tall me the best set up for my hdtv. Its a Samsung series 5 37 inch, can mind the model number of hand as I am doing this in work.

Right now I have a dvd, sky box and ps3 connected with audio cables alterating between dvd and ps3 to my stereo for the sound to come out the stereo speakers. I have the sky connected to the dvd by scart and the scart from the dvd into ext 1 on the tv. The ps3 is connected to ext 2 with a scart. However when I have my dvd on stand by I can watch sky, but when I switch dvd on, I lose sky and cannot record anything or watch sky while dvd is on. This set up was ok on my previous lcd tv, although it was not a hd one. iwas wondering if using component leads to connect the dvd to tv would help and a hdmi cable from ps3 to tv as well.

Any advice on how to set up with the hardware described I would be very grateful for.
