Default Where to start?

Okay, I just finished repairing my Nokia Dbox2 and had a nosey round it's menus, and I gather that it already has an image installed. But as the box has been out of action for a year or maybe more, I thought I best update it.

I've managed to set up an FTP connection between it and my laptop via network cable, and I can see what's on the box through Internet Explorer (Firefox was busy at the time!!!), I haven't hooked it up to the Cable yet (Ex-C&W), mainly as I can't find my F-to-Aerial cable (made it myself). So it appears to be working offline, but I'd like to get it up to date and working with the current stuff...

So, what do I do next? Is there some image file I need to download first and put it on the box or could I just use the box as it is?

Thanks in advance...

(and this smiley just cos I just found it and I think it's really funny... )

First of all I would use the box as it is mate, however you will probably need to download and install the rom fixes from the Chatterbox cc toolbar. ( google is the answer for that mate )

Once up and running you might want to update with a recent image that icludes all the fixes, my recommendation would be Blade Quad.

One thing, before upgrading to a new image make sure you back up your services and bouquet files from var/tuxbox/config/zapit.

The files you need are under files and fixes > dbox fixes > AU fix. You can get away with the rom7 fix on its own. Make sure your box is running evocam ( prefferably ) or mgcam for the AU fix to do do its job. Also bear in mind when you zap to a premium channel for the first time you might need to wait a few minutes for the screen to clear.

All the best mate.

Thanks, I haven't a clue what the box is running, all I saw on startup was "Sportster" and looking in the toolbar's menus that was released last year...

So if I just use the Blade Quad image, would that essentially "just work" once I have it installed or does that need some tweaks to get it going?

I guess you noticed I'm a bit new to this, I'm still in awe at getting an old Jerrold analogue box going!!!

Blade Quad is good to go mate. If you have a services.xml and a bouquets.xml file FTP them to var/tuxbox/config/zapit then using remote press dbox > service > reload channel lists.

If you don't have these files press the blue button and set your location then reboot the box. Using remote press dbox > service > servicescan and make sure the cable provider matches your needs ie 6952 for TW and 6887 for NTHell then do a complete scan. This should take no more than 4 minutes. You will then need to arrange your channels into bouquets, you can do this using the remote or on your PC using a programme such as bouquet wizard ( google )

All the best

Thanks, just took a quick look and they're there (aswell as being backed up into my Dbox folder on my laptop)...

Now the fun part, how to I actually install Blade Quad? Bearing in mind that the scatterbrain I am means I forgot my USB TV card, so anything onscreen would have to be done at home (shared internet access at the moment)...

Oh, as for the remote, I haven't got one as of yet, but I have got "TV Remote controller" on my PDA and it's been working the box pretty well so far, it's not perfect but works...

Unrar the image then FTP it to the tmp folder on the box. With remote dbox > service > image upgrade/backup > expert functions > write one partition > flash WITHOUT bootlader > select image then red to flash. Takes about 4 minutes.

I should have mentioned earlier, make sure your image is a 2x mate since Nokia boxes have two flash chips. If you flash the wrong type of image you will get a kein system error and you will need to reflash the correct image type with dbox IFA.
