Hi,

Welcome to Techwatch.

It would depend which package you are after? Some packages are available form 3rd party sellers on the Internet.

Some of the major movie channels on Hotbird (Multivision) have now stopped transmitting; while the C Cinema channels (10758V) are currently only open by subscription (and are possibly migrating to Astra 1 (19e) anyway. There are TCM (classic movies) channels (10948V) that can still be opened with a patched Technomate. Other than that, you will just have to get familiar with the best Hotbird channels and whether/when they broadcast movies.

If you can attach a second LNB (or replace current LNB for a monobloc) so that you get 19e as well then the TM is still opening the Premiere movie channels on 19e.

Beyond that, you are looking at getting motorised (or multi-LNB) in which case you might get FTA movies on e.g. 26e; or open (I think still for now) Digi TV on 1w with the Technomate; or subscribe to a cheap package like DigitAlb on 16e.

Have a look at the stickies in the Technomate section for an example.

Yes a monoblock will enable you to pick up two satellites from one fixed dish. The monoblocks are specificically designed for two satellites 6 degrees apart, namely 13E and 19E, You can also get 3 degree ones, presumably for 13E and 16E or 16E and 19E.

For the biggest bang per buck a motorised dish is best.

You don't BUY patches.

A monoblock LNB costs about £20, you can get a Moteck Diseqc motor for about £35.

Go for a motor they are not expensive and they are a future proof means of getting what ya want as god only knows some of these packages change around a bit.

You should think carefully before buying a monobloc - if you are considering motorising in future. A monoblock on ebay will cost you around £16 (+ postage) while a decent motor Moteck SG2100 should only cost you £32 (+postage) from one of the members here called southernsatellite.

The only real thing that could drive the motorised option up is installation cost; but if you are up to basic DIY, people here will talk you through it ----- thereby removing that expense.

Edited There might be an additional cost of £20-30 for T & K brackets and a scaffolding pole for the motorised option.
