erroe codes on N*L box?

Hi I have read what the error codes mean but how do you correct them? I have a Dl4000 with talkback cut but all I get is error 12 when switched on; I can also get error 17 which I don't understand? how is the box put back to factory condistions making it a blank box where hopfully new software can be used. I have fitted the JTAG from the forum and yes I do know how to solder I am a TV engineer and have been for 30 years+.
Basically how do I start with a blank box?

1.have you a live feed coming in
2. is the net id and freq correct for your area
3. jtag to get bk..solder or pogo pins
4. scart to serial or funcard method to set net id and freq

Er10_ Unable to Tune to Last frequency
Er11_ Unable to Tune to Home Frequency
Er12_ Unable to Tune to any of the last NIT defined frequencies

Er14_ Unable to scan for a symbol rate
Er16_ Unable to tune to hardcoded frequency

Input Stream Errors

Er20_ Timeout on receiving NIT

Object Validation

if you pull the wee red jumper power up box replace red jumper power up and this will reset ur box
make sure you have rite net id set and freq set

Hi its me again I know the net ID and frequency are correct as the box came out of a deceaseds home and was OK and working I have modded the box for a 9 pin connector and have built the "JTAG" pcb from this forum so I still need to know A) what software and b) from where?
