Default Dish Size and planning permission

Hey folks,

Can anyone clear up the planning laws with regards the maximum size a dish can be. From reading this forum I believe that the major consensus was that a dish could be up to 1m in diameter without the need of planning permission.

However, looking at my local councils webiste (and a few other councils), it states that the maximum size is 90cm http://www.falkirk.gov.uk/services/d...lite_dish.aspx

Could it be that the local council has their own policy or and more likely, their website is out of date?

Cheers

Al

Falkirk Council:
Quote:
Planning Permission will probably not be required for the installation of satellite dishes provided they meet all of the conditions outlined below. Written confirmation should always be sought before carrying out work.
The satellite dish:
  • must not be more than 90cm in diameter
  • must be the only dish on the house
  • must be no higher than the highest point of the roof, excluding the chimney
  • must be sited to minimise the visual impact on house
Whilst I believe 90cm is currently the largest without planning consent, I thought that it was permissible to install two dishes (larger 90cm plus a Sky minidish) since Sky Digital (or thereabouts) was introduced.

I've only seen a few dishes mounted higher than the roof apex (one above a roof with no chimney), but several properties now have two large dishes (60cm+) or three dishes, immigrant workers and multiple-occupancies.
And one property nearby has a fixed, at least 90cm, dish dwarfing the front porch it is attached to, when a rear of house mounting might just have been suitable.

Hi, the rules for England allow up to a 1m dish. But Scotland may be different.

Why don't you ring them up and ask them.

The planning laws for satellite dishes differ, In Scotland and Wales the max is 90cm, in England it is 1meter.

However in Wrexham we have houses with 1.5cm dishes attached some homes with three of these, due to the high numbers of migrant workers.

The max sizes refer to terrestrial aerials and dishes, which differ in Wales & Scotland as compared to England.

Unless you are in a listed home or area, no one gives a toss, if they do complain under planning law, they must put it in writing and this is open to
view by the person complained about.

They wouldn't use a quad lnb due to the fact they'd be in seperate rooms and may leave the property to move at any time depends where there jobs take them. Put what ya want up and if they complain compromise.

Flatlet houses with migrants can have up to five or more over 1m dishes, they bring them over with them, also a few have the big hughes
sky type dishes, I know they are for lotto, but the poles & a few more
not so (nice) nationalities got there first. No one as yet been told to take them down,if they did all hell would let loose. Some streets outnumber Sky dishes I AM PLEASED TO SAY on this point.
Anyhow I note the pubs with soccer(non sky) pointed at Greek & albanian
stations use 1m and 1.5 m dishes, all triax grey(the giveaway). All the above can be seen on Wrexham town centre streets.

I'm in Aberdeen and I recently checked with my local authority and it's a max of 1m for the first dish and 60cm for a second dish. I think the size was increased from 90cm as our local authority to stop multiple dishes being erected on their buildings had installers fit one dish per block of flats, correct me if I'm wrong but the larger size might be needed to maximise the signal.

They are really pushing it. At that size you'd need to be standing next to them to even notice they were there
