Default Newcastle Brown Ale

What the bl00dy hell have the brewers done to Newcastle Brown Ale?

I was in Tesco this evening and just fancied a Newkie, so I grabbed a couple of bottles. I cracked open a bottle this evening - the first in about 6 months, and it tastes totally different to what I remember. Its gone sweeter and more cloying, and is not a patch on the old version of the beer.

I know its no longer brewed in Newcastle but across the river in Gateshead - all I can say is the taste matching they do when moving beers around has failed badly this time.

Have they weakened the strengh? I drank big bottles of newke brown years ago, and enjoyed them. Why im asking is, i hear stella is putting out a weaker version [ i like the 5.2 alc] S o maybe newcastle brown is doing the same? I think newke was around 5 alc. I must grab a few, old memories
