Again Thanks!!
As far as I'm aware an 80cm is suitable in the UK but to have a good reception from thor i would with the 1 meter.

Who you gonna buy the gear off? I would strongly recommend southern satellite hes on this forum. Ians a great guy and loads of ppl here will agree.

Finally what type of a box you after? You gonna go standard or HD?

Yes 24" will be plenty, a 1m dish is approx 1m wide, 24" = 0.6m, so plenty of space.

Excellent - Thanks a lot!!!

Yes am defo going to be speaking to southern satellites - their name pops up here a lot :-)

I ultimatly would like a HD box - looking at the TM 6900, they look to be pretty easy going for a beginner... I hope

Here's another one - what would be the best way for me to watch in two rooms - was thinking of getting another TM 5400 for the bedroom... Or is there a smarted way of doing this?

Again thanks!

You can have two boxes but keep in mind that only one of them will be able to control the motor.

For watching in two rooms, a motorised setup is not the best option as only one receiver could control the motor, and both receivers have to watch from the same satellite.
(Unless you have more than one LNB on the dish).

Actually, thats not a bad compromise, a multi LNB setup motorised dish.

Or you could have a fixed dish on 28.2 (s*y) with freesat / FTA or have one fixed on hotbird just to feed the other room .

Sounds like I may be getting ahead of myself - might just get a video sender type thing to begin the multiroom type stuff...

Sounds like a call to Southern Satellites is the next step...

Thank you for all of the info so far!!

Question Re: Motorised or not

one prob i noticed m8 is motor noise and reliability are poor compared to a multi lnb

looking at your pic, you may have neighbours sleeping or in the garden near your dish motor. they will hear the whine, or complain about it, especially if like mine, they sleep at 10, and you want to surf hours after then on multi satellites.

its hardly discreet is it.
i think if you get a motor, and then after a months experiment, figure out you only need 4 or less satellites close together, multi lnb and a remote disecq 4:1 switch will be better, you can sell your old motor on ebay to pay for the upgrade, but im wondering if the dishes sold with motors are ok for converting to multi-lnb?

another thought is maintenance - if it like mine is on the roof and the motor needs fault finding, its not as easy as substituting lnbs or boxes, youd have to dismantle your entire dish to change the motor - on the roof!

are there any noise statistics for different motors - id love to know, maybe the plastic geared ones are quiter than the metal, anyone know dB @1m figures for different types or succesfully deadened the sound?

The Diseqc motors sold can normally fitted to any of the run of the mill dishes available.

The Triax dishes for example can be fiited to a motor, no problem, and multi LNB brackets are sold specifically for Triax dishes. Other manufactures including Gibertini, Raven Gemini and Orbital for example can also be used as multi LNB or motorised.

I must admit, I have never really notice the noise from mine, as it is intalled about 30ft from my house, in the garden.
