Hi all,
I'm looking to get into this project v soon and need your help... I can't decide whether or not to go for a fixed dish with multiple lnb's - from what I read, if I understood correctly, I believe I can pick up multiple satellites with this option? Or to go for a motorised system. I'm concerned about my property situation - I don't think the aspect is perfect for satellites - this is where I need assistance... I hope I've uploaded a pic correctly from dishpointer... I have put the dish arrow where I thing the dish will go, and on dishpointer I selected true north south - through that would give the best indication for you chaps/chapesses. So my main questions are: If I do go for a fixed - how many satellites could I get? Which are the main ones for English lang / sport / movies / general? and If I go for a motorised dish - will my house allow it? ie can I point it at many more satellites than I could get with a fixed... I hope that makes sense :-) Thank you in advance!! |

Hi,
You would get a reasonable part of the arc with a motorised dish. Assuming that the green line on the picture points south you should easily get 1W, and as far east as you want. In order that the dish doesn't clonk the wall you would need long T&K brackets, maybe the 24" ones would be best, as when at 1W the dish woul be at approx 90 degrees to the wall. With a multi LNB setup you would be limited to a a maximum of 20 degrees or so, and cost wise it wouldn't be any cheaper than a motorised setup. So I would say, go with the motor still. Robbo ![]() |

Ok thanks Robbo that helps - Yes the green line is supposed to be due south :-)
So 24" brackets seem to be the order of the day... Am I right to assume that the east has quite a few 'good' satellites, I think I'm not going to be able to get much out of west due to the house perspective? Thanks - and amazing forum btw guys - too much info :-) |

The majority of the stuff I watch is from the east. 13, 16, 19.2 28.2 and on west really only 1w. If someone can lmk if theres any other good stuff on other sats would be very interested.
Thanks |

anything on the west side from about 12west is usually for viewing feeds
you would indeed need 24inch brackets depending on size of satellite dish used to get more than 1west i think you might need to take it above the guttering so you can get a few more to the west

Noob question but, WOD what do you mean by viewing feeds?
What would be the best method of working out how far east I can take the dish, will I only be able to tell once it's in situe? Thanks a lot!! |

You have not got a problem EAST. It is WEST where you are limited, unless you go above gutter level as wod suggests. I would guess that from up there you would easily get 12.5 W.
Bear in mind though, the higher you go, the more exposed the dish is. Outside my territory I'm afraid. Me and heights don't go together. More on feeds here:- http://www.satelliweb.com/index.php?section=livef ![]()

Mate the question you have to ask yourself is what are you going to want to watch. As I said earlier I only go as far as 1 w which you'll have no problems getting.
Its all well and good having a sat that goes from 45e to 45w but not if you only goto 1w. You'll have absolutley no probs getting all the east dishes there 45e will just put it off straight with your rear wall. |

You are probs right - if footy and films are avail on east then I suppose it doesn't matter bout the others...
I'm thinking of a 1 meter dish - presumably that will be fine for the east sat's and hopefully will give me enough room off the 24" brackets to get to 1w? Would that be sufficient do you think? Again Thanks!! |
