Default psp newbie help with firmware

I have a psp a while now and I bought it with version 3.52 m33 already installed,I have downloaded a few games and they are working fine,I know there are new updates available,I'm not sure on how to get the newer versions onto the psp and what are the benefits of upgrading, can I just go from 3.52 to 3.95 or do I need to do it differently, also can I play ps1 games with the version I have? Thanks in advance Will.

once you get to firmware 3.80 m33 then you can actually use the built in upgrader on the psp. See my post in other thread best f/ware for iso's. As far as I know you should be ok to go from 3.52 to 3.80 at least. Thats the way I last did it. 3.52 > 3.80 and then 3.9. Yes you should be able to play ps1 games but to be honest its a bit of a disappointment. Theres and initial nostalgia trip but it soon wares off

Hi there, would you be able to recommend how to do a firmware change on a PSP1003 which has 4.05 installed? Thanks. Think its a phat PSP too, not slim, but don't know how to tell, as just bought it. Also, does anyone know what the max memory card is for the PSP? Theres an 8Gb stick on fleagay for under £20, which is cool, but just want to make sure 8gb will read under the new firmware etc.

hi mate 8gb memory sticks are fine i have one myself. do not buy from china as they sell fakes! i have been scammed a couple of times with fake memory sticks claiming to be 8gb but only half their size in reality. Personally i would purchase one from a uk seller
