quick question,
just been looking at sky+ HD boxes, with a hard drive to record, but it says the recording service is for any subscription holders, will the recorder work if I don't have a subscription? will it work if i get a FTV card?

Thanks

No m8 you need an active Sky subscription to utilise the record functions. If you want you can buy a satellite receiver with dual tuner and built in hard drive. Or if you wanted you can use a satellite receiver that can record to .ts files via the usb.

Your best bet m8 is to send southern satellite a mail and he'll give you a list of prices for different kit.

Not sure if you'll be checking this topic still but...

Yes a foreign satellite receiver will work, you might need to change the language setting. Which one are you looking to get?

I've set everything up but I only seem to be getting german language channels and possibly spanish aswell?
I've chosen english from the menu and UK region.

I'm using a fortec star passion HD, do i just need to tweak my satellite more to get the english channels?

Hi, you need to swivel the dish eastward by 9 degrees, and down a bit, you are probably on 19E.

Nope, I was def on astra 28 but I did the firmware update and everything was plain sailing from there,

anyone having trouble with the fortec star passion HD firmware update, just put the files themselves on the usb stick, not in the folders they unpack in. Also make sure you download the firmware and the reader file aswell and access the reader file on your usb stick first, then load the firmware when that's done.

I've now got the fottball semi final on in HD on BBC and I'm a very happy little chappy!

Thank you Cauliflower for all your help and thanks everyone else for their input, you won't be hearing from me for a while!!!

THANK YOU AGAIN and happy satelliting!!!
