Sorry Anglosat, the point is. Those who have bought freesat or are buying freesat now, can not get there local programme of 30 mins between 6 & 630p.m. The prog is only avail on Sky, this should all have been sorted out prior to freesat start up.

This was a forseen shambles for those with SD, along with the utter chaos of ITV HD post codes. And it allows Sky to blag, it is only they who can give you your the local programme, in 6 areas this is true.

And those who have been FTA for years, are now disadvantaged.

I also can not forget that Sky remain shareholders of ITV.

This is clearly a problem, and one that I hope will be rectified. I'm prepared, for the time being, to give Freesat a bit of slack. It's still early days, and Freesat has only had a 'soft launch' so far (apparently, it will be launched properly in the Autumn).

And in any case, when Sky's digital service launched, there was no ITV at all, and neither Sky nor OnDigital's terrestrial service had any regional programming on BBC1 (I seem to remember that there was a kind of 'Nationwide'-type programme that tried to cover all the regions).

But, as merlodlliw, madrat, et al, point out, this is a very unsatisfactory situation, and it does have the look of an unwarranted gift to BSkyB.

(Personally, I can't begin to imagine why my postcode suggests I should be getting BBC1 London coupled with ITV1 Central West!)

Agree, with all technics, launch etc they should have got it right.
I never had On Digital(bought a sony tuner later when it went tits up
from a cat shop) as for nationwide, I also recall for some reason couple of years ago,on freeview BBC1 news was put on BBC2(Olympics?), it was
BBC Wales/Scot & Nth Ireland that could show local news breakouts, all England had to suffer London region, then on breakfast shown on BBC news 24, that defected to london. I recall Bill Turnbull saying each time
there was a breakout in breakfast, for your local news switch to Analog
or Sat. This should have been a forseen problem, but as the breakfast
progs come from London that alone says it all.

The problem was BBC 2 freeview digital could not be"got at".One Prog
for all England, however the breakouts did occur in Wales.

But when they were launched they weren't being marketed as a total solution to the switch off of analogue were they.

I don't remember Sky being marketed that way, no, but OnDigital was; although analogue switch-off was only being talked about rather vaguely at the time, OnDigital was certainly promoted as a replacement service. Also, where I lived at the time, OnDigital was being pushed as the primary means of getting Channel 5 - 'coz there was no analogue signal available (unless you count the one from the local cable company).
