Default Re: Has anyone actually used a Fracarro Dish?

just visited

h**p://www.satsig.net/maps/lat-long-finder.htm

My location readings are: (same as my TomTom)

Latitude = 50.3454, Longitude = -5.1428
Lat = 50 degrees, 20.7 minutes North
Long = 5 degrees, 8.6 minutes West
If you want to point a satellite TV dish at Satellite= 5 West orbit longitude
Dish elevation= 32.3, Azimuth= 184.9 (magnetic compass), Polarisation= -0.1

I AM CONFUSED....WHY DO THE 1ST LINE AND 2/3 LINE DIFFER???

I SET MY USALS UP AS PER THE FIRST LINE/TOMTOM POSITTION..IS THIS CORRECT? THANKS

Some sites show degrees east as positive and degrees west as negative - to me that seems wrong, but, since I cannot affect it, I just keep an eye open for any indicators (in case it isn't spelt out).

no not that...what i meant was the top line states that i am at
50.3N and 5.1W which i am using

but the 2/3 line states a different location...of 50.2N and 5.9W !!!

huh?

They don't, it is just different notation for the same figure.

Lat is 50ºN + 20.7' (minutes). There are 60 minutes in a degree so 20.7 * 100 / 60 = 34.5, hence the .345 in decimal.
Likewise the longitude is 5ºW + 8.6' so 8.6 * 100 / 60 = 14.33, hence the .1428 (rounding accuracy notwithstanding).
